Arca is one of those artists who makes you feel like you've never actually heard music before — in the best possible way. Born in Caracas and shaped by NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, Alejandra Ghersi built a reputation as a producer's producer before most people even knew her name, crafting the unsettling, alien textures behind Kanye West's Yeezus and FKA twigs' LP1. But her own solo work is where things get genuinely breathtaking: records like Mutant and Kick i feel like dispatches from some future body that hasn't been invented yet. She's transgender, unapologetically herself, and her art reflects that total refusal to stay inside any box.
