My Take
Astra Taylor is the kind of public intellectual I genuinely admire. A Winnipeg-born documentary filmmaker and author, she takes on subjects most people find too dull or too painful to confront, chief among them predatory debt. She turns philosophy into cinema, won an American Book Award, and refuses to let her ideas stay academic, choosing instead to organize and act. People like her do not chase trends; they pose the hard questions and shake the structures the rest of us simply endure. That she devotes her sharp mind to ordinary people's financial survival makes her both rare and worth rooting for.
