My Take

Axl Rose remains, to me, the most fascinating contradiction in rock. The feral shriek and the delicate piano balladry come from the same restless man out of small-town Indiana, and that range still startles me decades on. He has been the lone constant of Guns N' Roses since 1985, weathering feuds, lineup chaos, and his own perfectionism — he would rather risk ridicule than release something he does not believe in. I do not always admire his choices, but I admire that stubbornness enormously. Voices like his arrive maybe once a generation, and the chaos seems to be part of the price.
