Barbara Carrera

Barbara Carrera fascinates me precisely because she refused to be just another Bond girl. Born in Bluefields, Nicaragua, she carried an exotic, intelligent menace that elevated Never Say Never Again far beyond decorative casting, earning a deserved Golden Globe nomination. What I respect most, though, is her second act: trading the screen for the canvas as a painter. That trajectory tells me she was always an artist first and an actress second. Hers is the rarer kind of celebrity, one whose creative hunger outlasted Hollywood itself, and that quiet reinvention earns my genuine admiration.
