Barry Ryan

Barry Ryan will always be, for me, the voice of Eloise, that gloriously overwrought 1968 hit that still raises the hairs on your arm. What I find moving is the brotherhood underneath it: he sang while his twin Paul wrote, a division of labor that turned sibling closeness into one unforgettable record. There is something honest about an artist who knew his role and gave everything to it. His later life as a photographer suggests a man who simply needed to keep expressing himself. He passed in 2021, but Eloise is immortal.
