Big Daddy Kane

Big Daddy Kane is one of those names where the reputation precedes the records for casual listeners, but the records absolutely earn it. Coming out of Brooklyn and the Juice Crew in 1986, he set a bar for lyrical dexterity and breath control that later MCs openly studied. What I appreciate is the full package: the smooth-operator persona, the wordplay, and the showmanship were all part of the craft. He's widely cited as one of hip-hop's most influential and skilled rappers, and that's not hype. When pioneers like him get name-checked decades later, it's because the technique genuinely held up.
