My Take
Bill Conti is the kind of composer who permanently rewired your nervous system without you even realizing it — because the moment you hear those Rocky brass fanfares, something inside you wants to sprint up a flight of stairs. Born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1942 and trained at Louisiana State University, Conti spent decades quietly shaping how movies feel, from the Cold War swagger of The Right Stuff to the sun-drenched cheese of Dynasty. His 1984 Academy Award for Best Original Score is well-deserved recognition for a guy who did more for motivational montages than any director ever could. The Hollywood Walk of Fame star is equally earned. He's not flashy about it — he just writes the cue that makes you believe the underdog is going to win, every single time.
