My Take

Blanchard Ryan will always be, to me, the woman adrift in Open Water. That film had no monster, no spectacle, just two people and an indifferent sea, and holding the screen under those conditions is one of the hardest things an actor can do. Her Saturn Award felt entirely earned. What I admire most is that she never seemed to chase the spotlight afterward; the New England roots, the steady education, the measured filmography all suggest someone who values craft over fame. I find that quiet, unhurried integrity far more interesting than another marquee name burning bright and fast.
