Bobby Shriver

Bobby Shriver could have coasted on the most famous surname in American politics, and what I respect is that he mostly didn't. A Kennedy nephew, Yale-educated and bar-qualified, chooses the Santa Monica City Council. That choice tells you something: he seems genuinely more interested in fixing concrete local problems than in dynastic theater. The resume of lawyer, journalist, record producer, and politician looks scattered until you notice the common thread of advocacy; he treats every platform as a tool for a cause. I find that pragmatism refreshing in a family mythology built on grand narratives. Shriver is what inherited privilege looks like when someone decides to spend it on other people.
