My Take

Boubacar Sanogo is the kind of footballer I quietly root for. A forward standing 187cm from the small Ivorian town of Dimbokro, he is the sort of player who lived in the penalty box and fought for every yard. African strikers often get reduced to raw athleticism, but I value the grit of a target man who bullies defenders and finishes the ugly chances. There is something I admire in a journey from a place few outside the country could find on a map to professional pitches abroad. The goals fade from memory, but the path he walked to score them is the story worth keeping.
