Brad Gillis

What impresses me most about Brad Gillis is not flash but endurance. Together with drummer Kelly Keagy, he is one of only two musicians to appear on every Night Ranger record since 1979, and that kind of unbroken loyalty to a single band is rarer than virtuosity. Born in Honolulu and raised in Alameda, with a stint in Rubicon before all this, he reads to me as a craftsman who values the song over the spotlight. I find that quietly admirable, and I suspect his steadiness is exactly why the band kept its identity through every lineup change.
