Bruce Foxton

I have a soft spot for bassists who anchor a band without demanding the spotlight, and Bruce Foxton is exactly that kind of musician. Coming out of Woking to power The Jam's mod-revival sound in the late 1970s, he was the steady pulse beneath the songs, occasionally stepping up to sing lead. What impresses me is the longevity: a career spanning more than fifty years is not luck, it's craft and discipline. I value substance over flash, and Foxton's quiet endurance, holding down the low end decade after decade, is the mark of a real professional I genuinely respect.
