My Take

Giovinazzo's Danny Messer was, for me, the heart of CSI: NY. He brought a real Staten Island edge to the role, the kind of streetwise New York authenticity you can't fake, and his arc through the Tanglewood storylines and the partnership with Lindsay gave the show its emotional ballast under all the procedural gloss. He plays simmering anger and wounded loyalty well, which suited Messer perfectly. I also appreciate that he's a multi-hyphenate who writes and plays music; it tracks with the slightly restless, artistic energy he brought on screen. He's a dependable, intense television lead who never got quite the wider recognition I think he deserved.
