My Take

Carson Daly is, to me, the great survivor of music television. Total Request Live made him the face of an era when MTV still decided what teenagers listened to, and most people who burn that brightly that young simply vanish when the format dies. Daly didn't. He parlayed a KROQ radio background and an unflashy, generous hosting style into a decades-long broadcasting career, including his own late-night show. His gift is making the guest the star and pulling the temperature of a room up a few degrees. That kind of ego-free professionalism is underrated, and it explains his remarkable longevity.
