Chanel Preston

Chanel Preston interests me less for the awards shelf and more for the trajectory: from Fairbanks, Alaska to a multi-hyphenate career as performer, director, and sex educator. Plenty of people in her field get reduced to an image, but she insists on having a voice and a point of view about the work itself. That self-possession, the willingness to direct and to teach rather than simply appear, is what earns my respect. I read her as someone who treats her career as a craft and a conversation, not just a commodity, and that distinction matters to me.
