Chara

I'll be honest, Chara is one of those artists whose voice I'd recognize anywhere, that breathy, slightly slurred, candy-coated rasp that nobody else has. What gets me is the range: she sings, she acts, she's hosted, she composes, like how many drawers of talent does one person need. And she's kept that wide-eyed, almost girlish sensibility well past fifty, which is its own kind of magic. She's not loud or flashy about it, she just keeps making the sounds she loves. Honestly, she's the kind of artist I reach for late at night when I want something with actual warmth.
