My Take
Chris Sullivan is one of those character actors who quietly makes everything better. As Toby on This Is Us he had the tricky job of being the comic relief and the emotional gut-punch in the same scene, and he nailed both, often under heavy prosthetics for the weight-loss arc, which is its own kind of craft. At nearly two meters tall he is physically imposing, yet he plays warmth and vulnerability beautifully. I also appreciate his range, going from prestige drama in The Knick to genre fun in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 without missing a beat. A reliably excellent presence.
