My Take

I have a soft spot for Chynna Phillips because she took the hardest route available to a second-generation star: standing next to the legacy instead of hiding from it. Being the daughter of two Mamas and the Papas members could have reduced her to a trivia answer, yet the Wilson Phillips harmonies, with her voice at the center, became generational anthems in their own right. Hold On still works because it sounds lived-in, like advice from someone who needed it herself. I respect artists who convert a complicated family inheritance into something hopeful, and she did exactly that with unusual grace.
