Clara Lago

Clara Lago strikes me as one of those European actors who deserves a wider international audience. Born in Torrelodones, near Madrid, in 1990, she made her film debut at nine and earned a Goya nomination for Carol's Journey in 2002, emerging young in Spanish cinema, a film culture that prizes emotional intensity and bold color, and I suspect she has the delicate, expressive range to thrive in it. Her role in Ocho apellidos vascos, the highest-grossing Spanish film of 2014, showed she can carry a comedy too. There is a sense she still has room to grow into something formidable. I would happily watch her work travel further beyond Spain, and I will be keeping an eye on her.
