My Take

Cory Monteith holds a bittersweet place for me. The Calgary-born actor paid his dues in shows like Stargate Atlantis and Smallville before Glee made him a worldwide face, and his easy charm read as completely genuine on screen. He could act, sing, and voice work too, a real triple threat. His death in 2013 at just 31 was the kind of loss that lingers, a reminder that the brightest screen presence can mask private battles. I still count him among the performers I genuinely liked watching, and I think his warmth is why so many people still mourn him.
