My Take
Okay, I'll be honest — the first time I read the name Shabadabao, I genuinely thought it was a stage gimmick, some retro jazz-scat throwback persona. It is in fact the stage name of an Akita local TV personality, and I respect the chaos of it completely. Born in 1968, raised in Akita — which, if you've never been, is the kind of deep-snow, quiet northeastern Japan that either makes you serious or makes you weird in the best possible way — this guy seems to have landed on the latter. He has spent three decades on Akita TV and radio, spins as stadium DJ for Blaublitz Akita, and is active on Instagram and X, which tells me he's out there doing something on his own terms. The name alone buys him a permanent slot in my memory, and honestly, in an era where everyone is relentlessly optimizing their personal brand, there's something quietly refreshing about someone whose entire aura just says: I named myself Shabadabao and I'm not explaining it.
