Darren Lynn Bouseman

Darren Lynn Bousman intrigues me because he is more than the Saw guy, even if those sequels defined his early reputation. Anyone can stage gore, but pivoting from torturous thrillers to gleefully strange horror musicals like Repo! The Genetic Opera shows a director chasing his own obsessions rather than easy paydays. The Kansas-raised, Full Sail-trained filmmaker has a real appetite for the grotesque-yet-beautiful, blending blood, music and theatricality into something proudly off-kilter. I have a soft spot for directors this committed to their weird vision, and I would rather watch a flawed swing than a safe miss any day.
