My Take
Dave Alvin is the kind of artist I respect more the longer he works. A founding Blaster who later passed through X and the Knitters, he's spent decades carving out a roots-rock catalog soaked in California dust and American storytelling. The Grammy for traditional folk is nice, but what impresses me is his refusal to chase trends; he just keeps digging into where he came from. Calling himself a poet feels earned, not pretentious. To me he's one of those quietly essential figures who hold up the backbone of American music without ever needing the spotlight.
