Dave Sabo

Dave Sabo, better known as Snake, is the kind of musician I quietly respect more than the spotlight-grabbers. As a founding guitarist of Skid Row, he helped define a raw, anthemic strain of late-eighties and early-nineties hard rock. Born in 1964 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, he has spent decades as the steady architect behind the riffs rather than chasing the front of the stage. There is something durable and unfussy about that role, and the nickname Snake suits those slithering, muscular guitar lines. I value craftsmen who keep the engine running, and Sabo is one of them.
