My Take

David Duchovny is one of those guys who somehow makes intelligence look effortlessly cool — a Princeton-educated New Yorker who could've been an academic but instead became Fox Mulder, and thank god for that. The X-Files made him a cultural institution in the 90s, that deadpan delivery and those permanently skeptical eyes doing more work than most actors' entire toolkit. Then he pivots to Californication and wins a Golden Globe for playing a charming, self-destructing novelist — a role that felt suspiciously autobiographical in the best possible way. And then there's the fact that he's also written actual novels, put out albums, written screenplays — at some point you just have to accept the guy is annoyingly multitalented. He's the rare TV star whose intelligence you never doubted for a second.
