My Take

I find Dax Shepard far more interesting than his filmography suggests. Plenty of comedic actors fade once the roles thin out; Shepard instead built Armchair Expert into one of the most disarming interview platforms around, and he did it by weaponizing his own candor. He talks about his flaws so openly that guests—celebrities, academics, journalists—lower their guard within minutes. That takes a kind of emotional intelligence Hollywood rarely rewards on screen. The Michigan-bred regular-guy persona is real, but underneath it sits a sharp, curious mind that also writes, directs, and edits. To me, his second act is his masterpiece.
