Deng Lun

What I admire about Deng Lun is how methodically he built his stardom, from a modest debut in Flowers in Fog to the breakout fantasy epic Ashes of Love. A Shijiazhuang native who became a household name across the Chinese-speaking world is no small feat, and the fact that he juggles acting, singing and business tells me he is restless in the best way. I am drawn to performers who carry a polished surface over real grit, and he reads exactly like that. But in March 2022 he was fined US$16.6 million for tax evasion and his social media accounts were closed, which cannot be left out of any fair assessment.
