My Take
Eddie Murphy is, to me, the purest expression of comic talent America has produced. A kid from Brooklyn who became a film star on sheer velocity of wit, then reinvented himself again as a voice actor and dramatic performer — the range is staggering. I love that his award shelf holds a Mark Twain Prize, a Grammy, a Golden Globe and a Razzie; that spread is the honest map of a career built on risk. Even his failures are the failures of someone swinging hard, and his comebacks keep proving the genius never left the building.
