Ellie Kemper

Ellie Kemper's brand of sunshine is far harder to perform than it looks, which is exactly why I rate her. Sustained optimism on screen tends to curdle into something saccharine; she keeps it buoyant, specific, and quietly intelligent. Knowing she studied at Oxford's Worcester College reframes the whole act — this is a sharp writer choosing brightness as a comic instrument, not a default setting. Her voice work and prose show the same precision. In an era when comedy defaults to irony and exhaustion, Kemper keeps betting on warmth and keeps winning that bet. I consider her one of the most undervalued comedians of her generation.
