My Take

Erick Morillo is one of those names that house music history simply cannot skip. A Colombian-American who powered the legendary Strictly Rhythm label and moved dance floors worldwide, he chose to hide behind a parade of pseudonyms, as if the music mattered more than the man. To me that says everything about his artistry. Losing him in 2020 at just 49 felt like a real wound to club culture. I take comfort in the thought that somewhere tonight, someone is still sweating on a dance floor to a track he built, and I think that is the truest memorial he could ask for.
