My Take

Kane is one of the more human stories in modern hockey to me. A British Columbia kid taken fourth overall in 2009, he has bounced from Atlanta to Winnipeg, Buffalo, San Jose, Edmonton, and finally home to Vancouver. That path was rarely smooth, but I respect a 188 cm power winger who scores the ugly, physical goals nobody else wants to chase. I have always preferred gritty survivors to polished stars who fade; their careers have grit and flavor. There is something poetic, too, in a man named after Evander Holyfield fighting his way back to his hometown. I hope he finds a fitting finish there.
