Feargal Sharkey

Feargal Sharkey owns one of the most distinctive voices punk ever produced, from the Undertones through that chart-topping solo single A Good Heart. But what truly earns my admiration is his second act: trading the stage for a relentless campaign to clean up Britain's rivers. Plenty of musicians retire quietly; he simply found a new cause to shout for. That refusal to go silent, to keep raising his voice for something beyond himself, strikes me as the most rock-and-roll thing a person can do long after the hits stop coming.
