Fumi Nikaidō

Fumi Nikaidō is, to my mind, one of the most fearless performers of her generation in Japan. What draws me to her is her refusal to be typecast: she slides from luminous charm to unsettling intensity without ever losing conviction. The early Blue Ribbon and Elan d'or wins were no fluke, and her Keio education hints at a thoughtfulness that informs her choices. I admire how she follows her own aesthetic rather than chasing trends, I keep watching simply because I never quite know which version of her I'll meet next.
