My Take
I have a real soft spot for Jack Gallagher. There is something gloriously contrarian about a Manchester-born mixed martial artist who steps into the ring as a monocled, umbrella-twirling "gentleman." In an era of pyrotechnics and shouting, he won crowds with technical grappling and dry British wit, which I find far more memorable than raw spectacle. Having grafted on the British independent circuit since 2006 before reaching WWE's NXT and 205 Live, he is the kind of patient, craft-first performer I respect. At 173 cm he was never the biggest, but character and skill made him stand out. In June 2020, though, WWE released him after a 2014 sexual assault allegation became public, and he has since competed in mixed martial arts.
