My Take

George Baker, born Hans Bouwens in the Netherlands, is responsible for a song nearly everyone knows even if they don't know his name. "Little Green Bag" from 1969 got a whole new life when Tarantino opened Reservoir Dogs with it, and that cool, strutting groove still gives me chills. But to me the bigger story is "Una Paloma Blanca," a global smash that became an evergreen singalong. The fact that this Dutch singer-songwriter wrote both, decades apart, shows real range. I find it wonderful that someone from Hoorn quietly authored two of the most recognisable pop tunes of the century. A hidden hitmaker.
