My Take

Gigi D'Agostino occupies a special place in my listening life. Born Luigino Di Agostino in Turin and spinning Italo disco since 1986, he built a sound that is danceable yet aching, melancholy hiding inside the beat. To me that emotional undertow is his true signature; tracks of his can make you move and quietly tear up at once. As a DJ, producer, composer and singer, he never chased mere spectacle the way much of EDM does. I still find myself returning to his music, and I rate him as a genuine craftsman of feeling on the dancefloor.
