My Take
To me, Gloria Leonard was far more than an adult film star. Born Gale Klinetsky in the Bronx, she became a publisher and, crucially, a fierce public advocate for free speech through the Adult Video Association and the Free Speech Coalition. I'm drawn to people who defend unpopular ground on principle, and she did exactly that, refusing to let her industry be shamed into silence. Her XRCO Hall of Fame and AVN honors recognize a career, but her real legacy is conviction. When she died in 2014, she left behind a template for standing your ground with intelligence and nerve.
