Graham Coxon is one of those musicians I genuinely feel bad about not appreciating enough in real time — because looking back, the guitar work he brought to Blur was something else entirely. From the shambolic indie bounce of Leisure through the art-school cool of Modern Life Is Rubbish and then the genre-hopping ambition of 13, he never once played it safe. He left Blur for a stretch, went off and made his own scrappy, lo-fi solo records that felt deeply personal, then rejoined for the reunion years later like nothing had changed — except everything had gotten better.
