Greg Ginn

Greg Ginn is, to my mind, one of the most important and uncompromising figures in American punk. As the founder, primary songwriter, and only constant member of Black Flag, he essentially helped invent the hardcore template, and his jagged, atonal guitar style still sounds confrontational decades later. Beyond the band, his SST Records gave a platform to countless influential acts. He has a reputation for being difficult and fiercely independent, but I find that stubbornness inseparable from his artistic integrity. Ginn never softened to please anyone, and that refusal to compromise is precisely why his legacy endures.
