Greg Iles

Iles interests me as a writer of genuine obsession. Born in Stuttgart yet rooted in Mississippi, he let the weight and history of the American South seep into his thrillers, and that sense of place is what lifts them above ordinary page-turners. Eighteen novels across genres signals someone who simply had too much to say to stop, and the fact that he also played guitar tells me the rhythm of his prose was no accident. He passed in 2025, but the strongest measure of a storyteller is whether the stories outlive him, and his clearly will.
