Hajime Satomi

Okay, this guy isn't an actor or an idol, he's a heavyweight businessman, and honestly I find that kind of refreshing. Born in Gunma in 1942, he's the founder behind the Sammy pachinko empire that eventually merged with Sega, and by 2024 he's well past the age most people retire, still a towering figure in Japan's entertainment-and-gaming world. To a regular person like me, "entrepreneur" sounds like another universe, and the dude who builds a company up from scratch usually weathered a lot of unglamorous, grind-it-out years to get there. He doesn't strike me as the smiley public type, more the guy who wins with numbers and nerve. But I have a soft spot for these behind-the-scenes bosses who quietly bankroll the fun everyone else gets to enjoy. Respect.
