My Take
I deeply admire Hannah Beachler for the worlds she builds. Coming out of Ohio and the University of Cincinnati, she became the first African American to win the Academy Award for Best Production Design, conjuring the Afrofuturist splendor of Wakanda in Black Panther. Yet I also respect her grounded earlier work like Fruitvale Station and her visual collaborations with Beyoncé. Production design is quietly the most foundational craft in film, shaping how an audience feels before a single line is spoken. Beachler is a master of that invisible influence, and her vision genuinely expanded what mainstream cinema imagines.
