Hidetaka Yoshioka

Hidetaka Yoshioka is proof that child actors can grow into something durable. He was working on screen as a boy, played Tora-san's nephew through the long Otoko wa Tsurai yo series, appeared for Akira Kurosawa in Rhapsody in August and Madadayo, and later became the island doctor everyone recognises from Dr. Coto's Clinic. What strikes me is his method. He rarely raises his voice or reaches for a big moment. He stands there looking quietly troubled and lets the audience fill in the rest. Actors like that seem replaceable right up until you try to replace them.
