My Take
I'll be honest, Hikari Mitsushima is one of those performers who just hijacks the whole frame the second she shows up, and I never quite see it coming. There's something about a Kagoshima kid who started out singing and dancing as a child act and then quietly turned into one of Japan's most ferocious screen actors that I find irresistible. She does this thing where her face looks soft and open but the eyes are absolutely on fire, and it wrecks me every time. By the time she picked up that Elan d'Or newcomer nod in 2011 I'd already decided she was operating on another level, and she just kept digging deeper into roles, leaving the rest of us scrambling to catch up.
