Shō Aikawa

Sho Aikawa is one of those guys I can't help but root for. He's the undisputed king of V-Cinema, the straight-to-video crime flicks where he plays the kind of scowling, menacing tough you'd cross the street to avoid, and nobody does that glare better. But the thing that totally gets me is the gap: switch over to a variety show and he's this grinning, easygoing big-brother type, warm as anything. And then you find out the scary yakuza guy is genuinely, seriously into raising rhinoceros beetles, and I just lose it picturing him peering into a bug cage with that intimidating face. Actor, singer, even director, and somehow he's stayed on the front line for decades. I figure people who last that long are the ones like him, tough at the core but humble enough to keep everyone laughing.
