My Take
I'll be honest, with Munenori Kawasaki the baseball almost feels like the second story. The guy was a legit shortstop, a sparkplug for the SoftBank Hawks back home, but what I remember is the sheer, goofy joy he carried into the big leagues with the Mariners and the Blue Jays. He chased Ichiro across the Pacific armed with broken English and a smile that could power a stadium, and somehow that earnestness made him one of the most beloved guys in the clubhouse without ever being the biggest star. He's the rare athlete you root for not because of the stat line but because he so obviously loves being there. Watching him just makes you feel lighter. That's a gift.
