My Take
Hiroki Abe is a track and field athlete from Sukagawa, Fukushima, born in November 1997, and honestly that combination alone tells me something about the kind of person he is — there's a particular toughness that comes out of Tohoku, a region that has absorbed a lot and kept going, and athletes who grow up there tend to carry that same unspoken stubbornness in their legs. Track is one of those sports where you can't fake it; you versus the clock, every single time, no casting director, no viral moment to carry you. I genuinely respect that. A former Hakone Ekiden stage-record holder and Universiade silver medalist now running for Sumitomo Electric, he still has room to build, and I'll be watching to see what he does next.
