My Take
What fascinates me about Ilona Maher is how she turned one of the least glamorous mainstream sports into a platform for joy. Plenty of athletes try to become personalities; almost none manage it without diluting what made them compelling. Maher did it by leading with warmth and self-deprecating wit, and her message about strong bodies being worth celebrating lands because she lived it on the pitch first. Even with her rugby career on pause, I find her more interesting than most active stars. Whatever arena she picks next, broadcasting, television, or a comeback, I suspect she will make it look like it was built for her.
