Iñigo Martínez

Martínez is the kind of footballer I quietly treasure: a Basque centre-back from Ondarroa who anchored Real Sociedad for 238 matches before earning a move to Al-Nassr. Defenders rarely get the spotlight, but I think the unglamorous craft of stopping goals deserves more respect than the flashy strikers usually hoard. His longevity and the trust managers keep placing in him tell me everything about his reliability. A composed, hard-nosed professional who lets his positioning do the talking, he is exactly the sort of understated craftsman I find myself admiring.
