My Take

Obradović is exactly the type of footballer I love to champion: a left-back who represented Serbia at the 2010 World Cup yet rarely grabbed headlines. Fullbacks do the thankless work, sprinting up and down the flank, defending and attacking in equal measure, and almost never getting the glory the strikers hoard. Reaching a World Cup squad is no small feat, and I have real respect for a career built on that unglamorous grind. Now retired, he remains, to my mind, a quiet point of Serbian pride, and the sort of pro the casual fan overlooks but the obsessive admires.
